It's not festival season in Sydney right now, but the best thing about travelling during Aussie winter is getting to chase the summers all around the world!
So by the time this post goes live, I'll would have just landed in (or will be gallivanting around) the US (yaaaasss!), where the weather is (hopefully) much more to my liking, instead of the sh*tty continuous rain and thunderstorm that's been happening all day today.
I've come a long way since my very first music festival in 2009 and would like to think that I've learned and picked up a few things along the way, so why not share some of it in a blog post, ey? =D
So without further ado, here is a widely generalised guide for all festival goers.
I say generalised only because there are a lot of different variables you'd have to take into consideration. For example, weather, what country it's in (because each vibe is different, ya know?), what type of festival, etc.
But even with all of that, there's still a whole list of basics I can outline!
For starters...

So you've just purchased your ticket and it's weeks or days before the actual festival. First thing you should try to do is:
1.) Gather the info
I know there are probably some people out there who don't mind being less organised, but if you're like me and would like to get as much out of that $170 ticket as possible, you have to plan your day.
Study the map, see what's going to be there (and who), mark the things you'd like to do/acts you'd like to see.
For the fullest festival experience, my suggestion is to have at least some semblance of a plan. It doesn't have to be minute-by-minute or even that detailed, but you should at least know where to go, ya know? (lol)

2.) Check the weather!
I don't know about everyone else, but when it comes to the week before a festival, daily weather checks become a regular thing. Rain is always the worst of the worst outcome, but the other advantage to knowing the weather forecast for the festival day (or weekend) is...
...being able to dress appropriately!
Which brings me to my next point...

3.) Guys, please. Dress Appropriately.
I mean, festival dress codes are already quite liberal as it is, so go ahead and totally wear whatever you like. But when your day is full of walking from one stage to the other, sitting on the ground and dancingdancingdancing?
The last thing you'd want to be wearing is, well, uncomfortable shoes - for example.
Right?
On the Day...
The day has finally arrived and it's the morning of!
I myself like to plan to get in early with whichever squad I'm going with, for reasons which include;
- Not having to rush everywhere while exploring and
- Being able to take lots of photos and take advantage of the daylight!
Some last minute advice...
1.) Pick a decent size bag
This applies to both boys and girls.
All festivals have some sort of security check point and there's a chance that your bag will get searched/upended. The last thing you want to be doing is spending longer than necessary at the checkpoint because you brought so much stuff.
Some ideal choices: bumbags, small backpacks and Camelbaks.
2.) Light outerwear
It's always handy to have some sort of jacket or windbreaker for After.
Especially for us girls!
No matter how good of an idea you think it is to go without a jacket/shirt/some sort of anything to cover yourself with after -- you will always ALWAYS regret it.
Always.
Speaking from experience here (lol).
Some ideal choices: anything that you can tie around your waist and won't be annoying to carry. Light weight sports jackets are usually pretty handy, (or sometimes I even just hook my 'over shirt' into my waistband).

Lastly, but not least...
3.) The extra things
Powerbank/cord, sunglasses, a fan, lipgloss, wet wipes or tissues, gum, sunscreen!
All. Very. Handy.
And of course, the most important things!
TICKET.
ID.
and
CASH/MONEY/BANK CARD.
YAY!
Have a great time and don't forget to spread the PLUR.
