Sorry I'm late, I got distracted..

You guys!

First of all, belated Merry Christmas! Woooo!

I totally had a content schedule and had initially planned to post a Christmas related blog post a few days prior to Christmas but as some of you may already know, I got a little distracted, then overwhelmed (lol - as you do).

So, let me just catch you all up. On the Monday after my last blog post my dog/fur child got into a "dog fight". At least that's what the people at the vet called it but, even though I wasn't present during the event, I'm going to go ahead and say that he was totally attacked by a much larger dog roaming around our neighbourhood without its owner! Ugh! There are no words to express my frustration at not being able to track down the owners of this dog and give them the ear lashing they deserve. There was literally nothing my dad could do besides pick my dog up and kick the dog away because it had Shakey clamped between its jaws.

It happened early in the morning so that whole day was pretty much spent at the vet or waiting for Shakey to get out of surgery. He received six sets of stitches and even though he's going to be fine, I'm not going to say the damage was minor because it really wasn't. He has six holes in his body, for f*s sake! Not to mention the trauma he's suffered.

Needless to say, it wasn't the best start to the week leading up to the Christmas weekend. Neither Steve or I are very big fans of how the Christmas season has become so focussed on materialistic things. I know this isn't a reflection of every individual out there, but just watching the news reports on how much last minute shopping people were doing and then reports on the aftermath and all the "unnecessary" gifts people were given and received...it's just ridiculous. We had originally planned on boycotting any type of present giving this year, 1) because we're saving for a wedding and 2) because we don't need a special occasion to give gifts to our loved ones, but alas, the attempt was unsuccessful. It just felt too rude not to have even a small something to give, especially when someone has spent time on a present for you. What I found this Christmas, though, was that assigning a budget to each person made me think harder on what to give them. If anything, it made our gifts more thoughtful and meaningful and I love how this made the act of gift giving feel less materialistic.

We spent the Christmas week and weekend catching up with friends and celebrating with loved ones and it's Christmases like these that really make the holiday feel festive to me. The sharing of food and company always tops receiving presents (even though I do enjoy that as well. Who doesn't? I'm not a complete grinch!)

Another thing I was pleased about this Christmas was that I didn't stuff myself silly with everything I could eat! It's the first time in a while that I haven't felt disgustingly full during the Christmas season and maybe it's because of the 30 degree 'strayan Summer days that make you not want to eat, or maybe it's because of something else, but whatever it is, thank you!

Christmas Day also brought the arrival of Steve's grandma all the way from China. She's a few months early for the wedding but everyone is happy to have her. (She reminds me of Mulan's grandma! lol), and despite the fact that his family members are beginning to trickle into the country slowly, I'm so thankful for the two extra days of public holidays because Steve and I managed to squeeze in an Old School QT Date Day.

So, if you guys don't know, when I say Old School QT Date Day, it means the dates we used to go on when we first started dating. We don't do it as often as we used to, mostly because we've been busy lately, but they usually go a little something like, going to the city and just roaming around, doing a little shopping and eating. It's very simple but it's not about how extravagant the experience is, it's more about spending time with each other. For the most recent one (it was a good day!), we tried this new burger place at The Star and then headed to Kinokuniya to finally spend the gift voucher I got for my birthday (6 months ago). I am so so so very happy with my book haul and very excited to read (and maybe review) them all. I am hopeful that the new year shall bring with it some book reviews from me. Ha!

Kinokuniya <3

We also got a fix of Easyway - which is so hard to come by these days - and roamed around market city, which I've missed because we're hardly ever in the city during the day anymore! Everything is always closed during the times we're there. (We live in woop woop, T__T).

So that pretty much brings you guys up to date! Coming up sooner than I'd like is the New f*kng Year! Holy crap, it's actually ridiculous how fast the year has gone. Who else feels like this? It's true what they say about time going faster as you get older and through the hustle of it all I like to stop sometimes just to take it all in and be thankful. In a few days it's going to be 2017 so I'm just going to take this moment to be thankful that I am surrounded by a supportive family and good, honest to god, ride-or-die friends. I'm thankful that I am blessed with the opportunities that Steve and I have been given and that we both are in good health.

Finally, hope. For 2017 I'm hoping that it will continue to be an abundance of music, words, books and brunch. For big and small adventures alike and more laughter than tears, and I hope for more good times that will become the best of memories.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone and see you next year!
