August Favourites!

Hi guys!

Wow, I can't believe it's almost September!

Fun fact of this post: August 5th came and went and it wasn't actually until recently that Steve and I remembered that that date marked our 6th month in London! So crazy how the time flew by like nothing and our to-do list isn't getting any shorter!

I've been trying to list down all the blog ideas that come to my mind but if there's one thing any creative person would know about, it's how ideas come to you at the most random times and sometimes you just have to satisfy yourself with oh I'll just file that away for later...and then never remembering it again.

Story of my life.

Anyway, so recently Steve and I have been doing a lot of traveling. Nothing major, just some small trips here and there, Stonehenge and Bath and Paris, (not including sightseeing around London). And between the never ending job hunt and playing 'tourist' I've discovered a lot of new bloggers out there that I've recently come to love and keep track of religiously, thank you, Instagram.
So in the spirit of the beauty/book/photo blogger concept, I've decided to try my hand at the Monthly Favourites theme. (I may or may not have also been looking for advice on some things girly seeing as my sisters and girlfriends are mostly now a half a world away, insert crying face here).

And so, without further ado and in no particular order - actually that's a lie because number 1 is probably my favourite and those of you who know me can easily tell why - let's kick things off with number 5!

5. Dove Go Fresh Compressed Deodorant
Pomegranate and Lemon Verbena, 75ml.
First saw this on one of @kexincherie's monthly favourites videos and decided to give it a try. I've never really been into sprays before, mostly because I find them too strong, but these compressed versions are too awesome! It has a floral and fresh scent which I really love and I like how its fragrance isn't too thick and cloying because if there's something I enjoy doing, it's breathing.
It also helps that Dove happens to be one of my go-to brands for things like this. Talk about brand loyalty. But no, I am so not that type of person when it comes to deodorant in the first place, but I did feel like this was a good solid #5.

4. Dermalogica Clear Start - Overnight treatment
Came with tiny freebies which I have yet to use!
If I've been in regular contact with you for the past 6 months, you would know how much European weather has stuffed up my skin, it's not even funny. I've been spending the past 3 to 6 months alternating between crying to my sisters on FaceTime about it, crying in my head and not to mention crying to (the only person I can truly whine to in this country) Steve - who probably wants to tape my mouth shut by now (if he had the chance, ha!). I'd just about given up until seeing this on @heyclaire's June/July Favourites video. I wouldn't have paid much attention to it except for the fact that she said something like, it will make your breakouts go away! (but in a slightly more articulate manner, of course). So, being the most amazing fiance that he is, I hadn't even finished watching the 14 minute video, when he'd already done gone and ordered the thing! Hee! I am the lucky one.
As photographed above, Dermalogica was also awesome enough to send some freebies (testers, you know) which I have yet to try out. But, wow, I've been using the Overnight Treatment this whole month and it's definitely working for me. Plus, the cream is super light and doesn't feel thick on the skin even though as Claire mentioned in her video, it smells a little...like, funky. But I can totally deal with that because it's been cutting off my breakouts before they enter that annoying stage, yay!

3. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick
Revlon, Wild Orchid.
Glamming up my ootd for SW4.
Pretty self-explanatory, this one. Every girl, even a not-girly girl like me, always needs a hot lipstick. I've been pretty finnicky with my lipsticks lately. Maybe I was being super picky or maybe just bored of everything, but what I did know was that I wanted a cute shade that wasn't too dark - like grapes...or bruises - especially because I'm totally a Tan Asian Girl, ha!
I was originally browsing for something purple to try but wasn't game enough to go all, you know, purple purple. And then I came across this shade which wasn't too dark or out there but not too muted either. It's my new fave for this month especially as it matches my nails at the moment.

Tia Chunky Cleated Heel Chelsea Boot, Boohoo.com.
Whoa, I actually just looked at this again on Boohoo.com to link it to this post and now I'm even more glad I bought them when I did because my size is gone! I just noticed it's one of their bestsellers as well and so it should be! These boots are so awesome! Easy to dress up or down and gives me the extra height I (totally) need. They are also really comfortable and versatile which is really great especially for someone such as myself who prefers to veer more towards comfort these days instead of crazy high heels (even though heels are so pretty). It's just not practical for me anymore to be walking around in uncomfortable shoes especially when my mode of transport everywhere now are usually my feet. You guys can find this on Boohoo.com for £30 and I am totally ready for winter with these!

And lastly but never least!

Drum roll please! And you guys tell me why #1 is my fave...go ahead, go!

1. Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell
As pictured on my instagram =)
I just loved this book so much, I'm still basking in the afterglow. I think I love it more because I didn't expect to love it so much. Even after - yes, Kaycee, I know you told me a hundred times how good it was - I think maybe it didn't grab me the first few times just because it was so different. But I'm so glad that you pretty much made me read this because the thing I love about it most is how it's so different. The story was beautiful and drowned me in the best way possible. It just took me back to, as cliche as it sounds, those first-love feelings and the kiligs! All those kiligs. You can't help but be with the characters and be on that bus and just...yeah, wow.

I tried to make it last but, yeah, you all can go have a look at my goodreads and see how that went, haha. My only complaint is that it ended where it did! I'm sure everyone who has read this is dying for more of Eleanor and Park but at the same time I do respect an author who can leave a story the way Rainbow Rowell did. With a little suspense even to the last word even though it was just a tad bit frustrating.

I'll just write my own fanfic then!
haha!

But yes, if you're looking for something to make you smile a bit, and cry a bit, and scream a bit, I strongly recommend giving this a go. My reader friends, you all know who you are! This will make you feel good, see for yourself.

-x-

And that, my friends, concludes my first ever Top 5, Monthly Faves, whatever you want to call it, blog post. I can't tell you whether I shall continue with this just because I actually hardly ever shop for much except for books, or usually just things that aren't worth blogging about.
Maybe once in a while I'll do a Top-5-something-or-other. I do enjoy blogging a good list once in a while.

I would love to know what you guys thought of this, I mean, I thought 5 was short but gosh this post is a long one! And please, please! Anyone with any more skincare advice, let me know, especially as I'm about to head straight into a European winter, I would appreciate any and all suggestions, haha!

Oh, and lastly, books! I know I have friends who read and I just got my mini book depository haul delivered but I am always looking for more titles to add to my to-read list. Tell me, tell me! =)

xoxo  'ella
