Hail Sunshine!

View from the top of the hill at Greenwich Park.
This past weekend gave us a taste of Summer in London and it was awesome. If we were deficient in Vitamin D before, we are certainly overdosed on it on the weekend. Steve and I spent most of it outdoors - yes, in nature - and laying out in the sun (just like all the other Brits!).

I am not exaggerating when I say that people here are like sunflowers. As soon as the sunshine comes out to play it seems like everyone completely stops what they're doing to soak it all in, no matter where they are or what they're doing. And I don't blame them, because as soon as the sun started shining, we could hardly wait to get outside and walk around in something other than rain, wind and overcast clouds. We even wore shorts on Sunday! (Oh, happy day!). Not quite warm enough to wear thongs though.

Saturday consisted of checking out all the prettiness of Greenwich. I instantly fell in love with the acres and acres of green grass and the amazing architecture. As we walked around, things kept looking more and more familiar and I actually spent a good, solid half hour convincing Steve that "this is definitely the place in that movie where Jack Black turned into a giant and was tied down by little people, you know?!"

Looking over Greenwich Park.

Of course, he had no idea and had to Google it. But! My point finally made its way across when Google did in fact say that Gulliver's Travels was shot in Greenwich. Yay, me! (Among other movies like Pirates of the Caribbean, etc. But my brain didn't remind me of that).

On the way to the top of the hill at Greenwich Park.

By the time we got around to heading towards the Maritime Museum, the outdoors kept us so occupied that we only had a half hour before it closed (at 5pm), but if we hadn't gone in and looked out the back window we wouldn't have discovered the massive park in the back. Which, again, green. I will never not love it.

Sunday, was all Hyde Park. After some severely awesome (fattening) Lebanese food with some bomb garlic sauce (a la El Jannah, Granville/Blacktown yalah!), Steve and I picked up a Starbucks, rented some pretty, green-and-white-striped lawn chairs (no, they're not free) and slipped into our own respective food comas. Almost every sunny spot was taken. I was amazed to see how quickly articles of clothing came off despite the fact that nobody was really dressed for sunbathing and there was no sign of a pool or beach nearby. We were so excited to finally bring out our Raybans and singlets and get back some Asian tan.

Picturesque, Hyde Park.
Needless to say, by the time we got home, we were all sunned out. After this trip, we will never, ever take the sun for granted again!

The day is incomplete without coffee.
xoxo
